Roadify wants to make NYC traffic and public transit more social

Roadify logoRoadify's free iPhone app, which uses crowdsourcing and data gleaned from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and Department of Transportation to provide users with updates on the status of any subway, bus, parking spot, or traffic crossing in New York City, captured the grand prize at NYC's BiggApps 2.0 competition, pocketing $10,000 last Thursday. NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg presented the awards.

Basically, the Roadfiy app functions like this: if you're waiting for the B61 bus, all you have to do is hit "Give A Bus" on Roadify once it arrives and the app records the exact time that you spotted the bus. Other Roadify users waiting for that bus at some other point along its route can immediately see if it's either running late or coming on time.

A panel of jurors, including co-founders from Foursquare and Twitter, as well as city officials voted at BiggApps 2.0 and awarded Roadify with the the competition's overall grand prize and second place in the Popular Choice category. Click here to download Roadify. Too bad it's a NYC-only app.
